Floaters
A floater is a mounted photo/poster which does not have the "normal" sides of a box mount. Instead the artwork projects off the wall using concealed spacers, creating a floating effect. The photo projects 3/4" from the wall for photos up to 18" x 24". One inch spacers are used for larger photos. Floaters are more often used as a option for photos. Just as in the case of box mounts, the floaters are hung by a wire attached to the spacers. The 1/8" floater edge is custom painted.
Here are samples of the same photo box mounted and floated from different angles. The buyers wanted the original white border to remain on the floater. This was optional. I could have trimmed this away. The box mount is a larger photo 8" x 10". While the floater is also an 8" x 10", the actual photo is 4.25" x 6.5". (The flash camera caused the reflection on the floater, this is not on the original).

As you can see, the floater creates a
"lighter" look than the box mount.
